The building permit for our new worship center was issued on February 19th, 2008. Phillips Construction began immediately preparing the foundation to receive the large steel beams. Beams arrived the last day of March and were erected the following week. The outside of our new worship center was completed in early December, 2008.
The exterior walls were made beautiful by Master Wall. Airconditioning duct work is completed on the enterior along with framing and and the installation of a fountain with decorative stone in the Narthex.
Calvary celebrated the one year anniversary of the storm, that damaged the old worship center beyond repair, on the first Sunday in March, 2008. Since March 1st, 2007, Calvary has worshiped in the old gym where, interestingly, the church held services during the first twelve years of its existence at the Old Moon Road site.
A long standing policy of the pastor and Calvary Baptist Church is to build without debt. The old worship center was completed without debt in 1990. Calvary has been able to do ministry through many the years without the heavy burden of building debt that some churches bear.
The new worship center is being built in three phases.
Each phase begin only when contributions have been given to cover the cost of that phase. Phase one and two is paid for and almost completed. We are praying that enough donations from members will be given to the building fund so that we are ready to build phase three soon.
God has provided everything necessary for all ministries of Calvary to continue. Only one regular activity was affected after the storm. Due to building repairs during the Summer of 2007 we were unable to provide a Summer Vacation Bible School. This year Vacation Bible School was back with over 200 attending. God is good. God's people have been good as well. Our church fellowship has continued to grow and God has blessed us with the ability to keep on doing what we believe is our mission, "to carry out the Great Commission through healing hurts and meeting needs." Praise the Lord! We are truly blessed beyond measure.
